European Mobility Week Awards

European Mobility Week Awards

The EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK Awards, the most significant awareness campaign of the European Commission on sustainable urban mobility, aim to recognize local governments that have been successful in creating awareness about sustainable urban mobility. In this context, communication promoting walking, cycling, public transport, and a multimodal lifestyle is expected to be at the forefront.

Direct active participation is expected from the municipalities that have earned the “Golden Participants” title by registering. Only in this way can they apply for the European Mobility Week Awards with the activities they carry out during the week of September 16-22.

In this context, local governments must have completed the three criteria specified below to apply for this award.
⦁ Organizing sustainable mobility-focused events during the main event week of September 16-22
⦁ Implementation of one or more permanent transportation measures
⦁ Organizing a “Car-Free Day” event

Scoring Criteria:

A maximum of 5 points can be awarded for each criterion:
– If there was no significant change after European Mobility Week: 0-1-2 points,
– Efforts were made to increase awareness, but significant progress was not achieved: 3-4 points,
– Some achievements were made during the week program, but improvement is still needed: 5-6 points,
– The program during the week had many positive impacts: 7-8 points,
– If the campaign effectively achieved a successful result: 9-10 points.

An average score will be calculated for each criterion based on the assessment of each jury member, and the jury will determine the winners by agreeing on the top three finalists.

Evaluated categories include:

In the ‘Week Activities’ category, activities such as posters, social media posts, informative sessions, music events, film screenings, traffic education, and large-scale walks are considered.
In the ‘Permanent Measures’ category, efforts such as the improvement of bicycle paths, construction and maintenance of bicycle parking areas, improvement and maintenance of green spaces, measures taken for the visibility of individuals with special needs in traffic, and the expansion of public transportation networks are considered.
In the ‘Car-Free Day’ event, activities such as making public transportation and bicycle-sharing systems free for the entire day, partial opening of streets and boulevards for pedestrian use only during certain times are taken into consideration.
